SLK32 Boost Gauge - Part2

Mounting the gauge had certain difficulties.

There are no premade A-pillar pods for the SLK. The only other location for the gauge

would be in the compartment next to the coin holder but that would be too low to see.

I purchase the HKS 46mm gauge pod which is a generic pod (ie. not designed for

any particular car).

Above is the gauge in the pod.

From the rear. This pod is too long to fit on the SLK without hitting the windshield.

The rear must be modified to make it fit.

A belt sander is used to reduce the back of the pod.

After reduction.

Automotive body repair material is used to create a new rearend of the pod.

Duct tape is used as a "mesh" to keep the material in place.

After sanding and cleaning the three components of the pod are set up for painting.

Flat black spray paint is used to give a similar look to the SLK interior.

The a-pillar is marked for drilling. The small circles are for the reatining screws and

the large circle is for the boost line and lighting wire.

The above pictures demonstrate the finished product.

Illuminated. Wiring was tapped from the back of the radio.

The rear of the gauge before the back is installed.
