Changing Brake Pads on the SLK32 AMG

One of the best upgrades you can perform on the SLK32 is a brake pad change.

OEM (factory) pads produce a massive amount of brake dust.

I highly recommend Portfield brake pads for all SLKs.

You can get these pads from MyRoadster.

Changing the pads on an SLK32 is very similar to the 320. Just on a larger scale.

Above is an overview of the SLK32 front brakes.

First lossen the brake fluid cap.

Remove the anti rattle spring. The spring must move in the direction of the green arrows.

This can be done by rotating the spring with a plier in the direction of the blue arrows.

Disconnect the brake wear sensor.

Take the dust covers off of the retaining bolts.

Remove both bolts with a T-45 Torx

Remove the caliper (don't let it hang). Remove the brake pads.

Push in the caliper pistons (red arrows) as far as they will go. I was able to do it with my hands.

Place high temperature brake grease or anti-squeal paste as indicated by the red arrows.

Install the sensor. Notice the piston springs on this pad.

Install the pads. The caliper pads have built in springs that insert into the pistons.

Place grease or anti-squeal paste on the outside pad were it will contact the caliper.

Tighten the bolts and replace the covers over them.

Attach the sensor connection.

Reinstall the anti rattle spring.

I lined it up and gave it a squeeze as shown above. Make sure it fully seats so it won't pop off.

Once both sides are complete, retighten the fluid cap and press the brake pedal slowly several times to seat the pads.

Drive gently for 100-200 miles. Test the brakes for proper operation.
