The SR1 in the SLK 32 AMG

Remove the front grill. There are six 10mm bolt screws.

The right horn in the picture will cause the detector to go off since it would be in close

proximity to the receiver of the SR1. The horn must be moved. Remove the drivers side horn and remove its bracket.

I used bendable plumbing support material to fabricate a new support for the horn as seen below.

Now install SR1 front receiver with wire tie straps. No horn nearby makes all the difference.

Below is the finished front.

Now run the wire along the driver's side wiring harness and secure it with wire tie straps.

Run the wire toward the fuse box. Disassemble the fuse box. First remove the lid.

Then the next cover.

Then release the tabs toward the front of the car and gently pull up the fuse holder.

Note this picture was taken after the wire was already run. You can see it in the bottom left of the picture.

There is a wire passage through the firewall at the bottom of the fuse box.

The SR1 wire can freely pass through this hole to the interior of the car.

Secure the wire and reassemble the fuse box. The wire enters the fuse box as in the picture above.

The wire enters the passenger compartment as shown in the photo below.

Note that the panels under the dashboard have been removed.

Remove and disconnect the radio.

Remove the wood and lower storage bin. There are two small screws just

above and inside where the face of the radio would be positioned. See arrows.

Note that the wood has already been removed so the screws are not seen.

Locate these two wires on the radio harness.

Wire in the power supply to the SR1. The brown wire is ground.

Find a location for the rear laser. In the SLK 32 AMG the rear laser cannot be mounted

like it was done on my 320. The rear bumper would cover the laser sensor in the 32.

I choose the location below. When the trunk is closed the laser can still "see" out the back.

It is a compromise but rear laser detection is rare anyway.

Run the laser wire from the laser detector as shown below in red.

All the panels where the wire would be must be removed (blue arrows)

Below, the driver's side trunk cover is removed and the laser wire can be seen

going through the opening to the front of the car. Duct tape is placed to smooth a sharp edge.

Note that the trunklid is opened backward by activating the roof so that the panel can be moved.

Push the weatherstripping away from the small rear window (which is down) to see the wire to the small window motor.

The thin wire is the laser wire. The wire passes through this rubber seal.

The wire then enters the passenger compartment.

Run the wire to the dashboard by removing the door sill (pull up)

Now run all the wires (from the front and rear sensors) to the radio area.

Drill a hole through the storage bin to run the wire from the display module.

Wire up the system as per the instructions.

Gently place the wiring back inside and under the radio area.

There is plenty of room.

Reassemble the car.

Use black double face tape to secure the rear laser sensor and the display. Note that I am using Fun Tak temporarily.

Whew, that was fun!
