TireFit Kit for the SLK

This kit allows you to remove the spare tire and accessories to

reduce weight and gain a trunk compartment.

Parts needed:

New trunk mat: Part number A 170 680 03 42, list price $67

TireFit Luggage box: Part number A 170 890 01 11, list price $119

Before and After (Above)

The above picture demonstrates all of the items that are contained under the trunk mat.

With all of the items removed, you can see the amount of space that is available.

Once the spare is removed, the retaining screw for the spare must be removed.

Simply use a long nose plier and sqeeze (red arrows) and push the screw in the direction of the blue arrow (toward the front of the car.

Place the bin inside the spare tire area as shown above.

At the base of the bin is a hole to receive the area where the spare tire retaining screw used to be. Align the bin to this area and slide the bin retaining tab in place. This should secure the bin and prevent it from being lifted up.

Once the bin is secure, the mat can be installed. There are four tabs that insert into

the bin in the areas shown above (blue arrows).

Now simply installed the lid. That is it!

Inside the bin.

Above is all the items that are removed by this procedure. Add them up and they are heavy!

One note: I put a can of fix-a-flat in the area to the right of the bin, under the CD changer (under the mat).

I also placed the tool kit and a small set of jumper cables in front of the bin. This way I could

store these items and not use any of the bin's storage space.
